Duluth Trading Company is back for its third Live Commercial sponsorship with ESPN starring Elle Duncan and Michael Eaves. For the first time in the rich history of the SportsCenter Live Commercials franchise, ESPN and Duluth Trading collectively decided to cast two talent. For this campaign, there were a total of five spots: “Two Ways to Grill,” “Football in the Fall,” “Fan Pants,” “Best Damn Everything,” and the final spot “Fit for Every Fan”.
“In our third year of collaboration with Duluth Trading, we continue to best ourselves by creating unique content representing the spirit of both of our brands, led by our award-winning Disney CreativeWorks team,” said Becca Vodnoy, senior vice president, Disney Advertising Sales. “These spots will be a special treat for our viewers and look forward to their reactions. Incorporating our best-in-class talent for the first time is a testament of the synergy and trust between our teams, and we look forward to more activations in the future.”
The goal this year was to pick up where things left off in 2020 and re-imagine how to infuse Duluth Trading organically into the world of sports, so that fans can see that Duluth Trading clothing should be a part of their everyday fandom. This year’s spots showcase witty banter between Elle Duncan and Michael Eaves – a unique take on the traditional Duluth Trading Live Commercials. The pair authentically highlight Duluth Trading products while channeling the humor and creativity that ESPN fans recognize and love.
“First of all, I want to thank Duluth Trading for making the best and most versatile gear for everything outdoors, whether it’s for work or play,” said Michael Eaves, ESPN SportsCenter anchor. “Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, I appreciate Duluth giving me the opportunity to show the rest of America what I experience on a regular basis: Elle and her antics. To be fair, though, they do make for great commercials.”
“One of my favorite pastimes is trolling Eaves, and Duluth Trading has empowered me to do that whilst wearing some pretty sweet threads,” said Elle Duncan, ESPN SportsCenter anchor. “In all seriousness I love the playful nature of these spots and the partnership between sales and Duluth Trading that afforded us a unique take on live commercials.”
The relationship between ESPN and Duluth Trading dates back to 2018 when ESPN incorporated live commercials into a SportsCenter telecast for the first time ever. From Kenny Mayne wrestling a bear and “building” a dream vacation home, to Elle Duncan and Michael Eaves petting a stuffed dog and “grilling” hot dogs and ribs on the set, this relationship has been a very exciting and productive one for Duluth, their agency, Palisades, and ESPN.
