As Senior Vice President, Next Generation Storytelling and Consumer Experiences, Michael White holds a multi-functional, multi-faceted role.
White is responsible for establishing the overall vision and strategy for the technologies and platforms that enable the consumer journey with Disney through the new, connected storytelling frontiers of the metaverse. Working across multiple business segments, disciplines and groups, White is responsible for developing the processes, prioritization, partnerships, and cross-discipline knowledge sharing and coordination.
Additionally, White leads the Consumer Experiences and Platforms team within the Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution. He and the team are responsible for the technology strategy, engineering and product teams charged with inventing and evolving inspirational digital experiences that entertain and deeply connect consumers to a digital product portfolio that includes ABC, ABC News, Disney, ESPN, FX, Marvel, National Geographic, Star Wars and more – reaching more than 380 million users per month around the world.
In his prior roles at Disney, White led technology organizations at Disney Parks Experiences and Products, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media, and Disney Interactive. While leading these teams, he oversaw the deployment of the Park’s industry-leading products, apps, and connected experiences and the development of a portfolio of consumer products, cloud infrastructure, business intelligence, data systems, mobile technologies, and proprietary game engine technology. An advocate for diversity, he also led the team that launched CODE: Rosie, an innovative diversity and development program now in its third installment, aimed at advancing inclusion and gender diversity in technology at the company.
Before joining Disney in 2011, White served as CTO and CIO of the Apollo Group, where he led the development of academic social networks, mobile applications, and the creation of an educational- adaptive learning platform for third parties and universities.
From 1999 to 2009, White worked at Yahoo!, where he held senior positions in product development, engineering, and global operations. Previously, he worked in technology at Geocities until the company was acquired by Yahoo! in 1999. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Ohio State University and lives in Los Angeles.
