To celebrate the series finale of “Modern Family,” Toyota joined forces with Disney Advertising Sales to create a custom spot honoring the show and the long-standing relationship the brand has had with the series throughout its 11 seasons.
The spot takes the audience on a drive down memory lane in the all-new Toyota Highlander, stopping at each of the houses from the show and reliving fun memories from past episodes before driving off into the sunset. This custom Toyota spot will be airing twice on Wednesday, April 8 during “A Modern Farewell,” the one-hour documentary preceding the series finale, dedicated to the 11-year run of this iconic series.
Toyota has had a unique, enduring relationship with “Modern Family” and this tribute marks Toyota’s heartwarming farewell to the series. When “Modern Family” first debuted, the storyline was groundbreaking, highlighting a modern view of family life. Although some brands were hesitant to be aligned with the show, Toyota embraced the content and has supported the show since the beginning.
Toyota was the first brand to carry out an integration with “Modern Family” and has been a part of the series throughout the entire 11 seasons. From Claire’s spacious Sienna (she later switched to a stylish Camry after her kids grew up) and Mitch and Cam’s versatile Prius to the fun Corolla Haley received on her 21st birthday, Toyota has been deeply engrained into the plot and has been integral in helping the family make lasting memories over the years.
“As the first brand to execute an integration with ‘Modern Family,’ the team at Toyota is thrilled to see it come full circle 11 seasons later with this beloved and celebrated series,” said Lorenzo Harris, Integrated Marketing Operations, Toyota Motor North America. “We’re hopeful that in this moment, we can toast the show with a one-of-a-kind tribute and help fans celebrate all the love, laughter and memories that it brought over the years.”
The custom spot initially began as a live-action shoot but evolved to an animation with a recorded voiceover from Ty Burell, who plays Phil Dunphy, as the coronavirus pandemic no longer allowed a safe environment for a live-action shoot. The conclusion of “Modern Family” signifies an emotional and meaningful milestone, and Disney and Toyota adapted to current events to give the show its well-deserved homage and celebrate the occasion with fans.
“Toyota has been a crucial sponsor of ‘Modern Family’ since the very first season, and its vehicles have grown with the characters through the years,” said Jerry Daniello, senior vice president, Entertainment Brand Solutions, Disney Advertising Sales. “This tribute exemplifies the tenacity of Disney Advertising Sales and the way the team is continuing to service clients while navigating the uncharted waters from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. We’re taking this moment with the brand to celebrate the iconic series, all while bringing a piece of levity to the intensity of the present state of the world.”
